Looking for a fun and practical sewing project? Join us for Super Simple Project Bags, where you'll learn to create two stylish and functional bags—one with a cotton front and one with a vinyl front. Perfect for storing and organizing your quilting, knitting, or crafting projects, these bags come together quickly and are great for confident beginners looking to expand their sewing skills.
In this hands-on class, you'll gain experience working with zippers, vinyl, and different fabric types while following step-by-step instructions. By the end of the session, you'll have two finished project bags and the skills to make many more!
Class Details
Cost: The class fee is just $27.50 per person + materials (see below)
Materials:
BAG 1: Super Simple Cotton Version (dimensions: 15" x 12.5")
- Fat Quarter Option:
- fat quarters: Outside: 2 fat quarters – non directional and pretty AND 1 fat quarter– solid or tone on tone for the top and binding
- Lining: white or very light print (tone on tone works well) – ½ yard provides lining for two project bags (can be two fat quarters)
- quilt batting – 1 pieces 14 x 16 inches and 1 piece 13x13 inches
- one 15 or 20 inch plastic zipper – colour to compliment your choice of fabrics
- OR Jelly Roll Option: one jelly roll provides enough 2.5 inch strips for 3 or 4 project bags. Alternatively make 2.5 inch strips out of your stash yardage….recommended
- Lining: white or very light print (tone on tone works well) – ½ yard provides lining for two project bags (can be two fat quarters)
- quilt batting – 1 piece 13 x 16 inches and 1 piece 13x13 inches
- one 15 or 20 inch plastic zipper – colour to compliment your choice of fabrics
BAG 2: Vinyl Front Bag (dimensions 15: x 12.5")
- Fabrics: 2 fat quarters of pretty fabric. If cutting from yardage, 2 pieces 13 x 16 inches (can be the same or different prints). Also needed will be 4 strips, 2.5x13. (can be the same as binding or contrasting)
- Binding: two 2.5 inch strips of cotton (solid or tone on tone is effective but it can be the same fabric as used on the back)
- Vinyl: 12.5 inch square piece (in case of an error, please bring two – once sewn, the holes cannot be erased)
- quilt batting – 1 piece 13 x 16 inches
- one 15 or 20 inch plastic zipper – colour to compliment your choice of fabrics
Additional items to bring:
- Quilting ruler – 5x24 inch is handy but it does not need to be this long. 12.5 inch square ruler is very helpful but not necessary
- Scissors
- Rotary cutter
- Cotton thread
- Your sewing machine in good working order
- General sewing supplies (pins, clips, etc)
- Lunch
* There is a minimum of 5 participants for this class. If we do not have enough students to run the class, you will be notified via email and the cost of the class will be refunded.
